Coaches and Clubs
WOW, what a week. Now that arrangements have been made to keep the paddlers in Canada and to bring back those already at Florida training camps, we are looking at how we can best support you and your clubs during the COVID-19 outbreak. This crisis presents an opportunity for all clubs across Ontario to support each other and share resources and tools as one community.
Please review some of the initiatives we will be providing and let me know what other types of support you need.
Weekly Fitness Challenge
Starting today, we will be providing a weekly online fitness challenge where members can submit a video of themselves completing the challenge at home. A new challenge will be announced through our social media platforms on Tuesday each week, members can submit their videos by Sunday and winners will be announced on Monday's. Age categories include female and male U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U21, Open, Masters (25+), Para and Special Olympics. Results will be ranked, and club points will be awarded for the Top 8 participants in each category. Full details can be found on our Canoe Kayak Ontario Sprint Facebook page. This week’s challenge will be announced shortly.
Shared Training Activities
Since clubs are closing for the near future, I know coaches are working hard to develop training plans that can be completed at home. This is where we can help each other the most. I have created a Google Drive file (link below) to encourage coaches to upload their training activities during the outbreak. This can become a great resource for all of us. The more we share, the better tool this becomes.
The CKO Sprint’s board is meeting tonight to further discuss how we can support the clubs. We are looking at hosting weekly club leader meetings to help facilitate discussion on how clubs are managing during the crisis, what questions they have and what support we can provide each other.
In addition, we will be allowing clubs to use our online meeting platform, Zoom. If you need access to our Zoom account, I will be sending out an online usage sign up sheet by Thursday. If you have an immediate need please let me know.
Keep up the great work and thank you for all that you are doing for your athletes!
