2025 Welland Development Training Camp - April 26 - May 4, 2025

Our Welland Development Training Camp is now open for registration. The camp is targeted towards U14/U16 athletes whose training objectives and competition goals are aligned with a performance result at the Ontario Championships. For those wishing to attend our 2026 High Performance Florida Training Camp for the first time, our Welland Development camp provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable training camp experience. Full camp information, including the online application, our FAQ section, and camp resources are available on our event page here. The application deadline is February 25, 2025. A parent/guardian information session is scheduled for February 19, 2025. Coaches interested in participating in the training camp should contact me by February 25, 2025.

2025 Ontario Team & Canada Summer Games Team Selection Criteria

Please see our draft 2025 Ontario Team selection criteria here, and our draft 2025 Canada Summer Games (CSG) Team selection criteria here. Updates to the Ontario Team selection criteria from 2024, include a minimum performance result at National Team Trials #2 only, and a review of our bonus points structure. The CSG Team selection criteria is the only Regatta Team event for 2025. Selection is based on the top ranked eligible athlete in each event at Ontario Team Trials. Additional nominations are based on the combined ranking of eligible athletes in both events at Ontario Team Trials. Coaches and athletes are encouraged to provide feedback by February 25, 2025.

Coach & Technical Leader (CTL) Education & Professional Development

Our 2025 coach education workshops are scheduled for May 24-25, 2025 (Competition Introduction), and June 7, 2025 (Community Coach), and are open for registration. Information on each workshop and their registration can be found here.

Looking to enhance your coach knowledge and experience? Check out our updated CTL Mentor Program (formally Development Coach Mentoring Program) for the 2025 season. The program provides resources and support to emerging coaches and club leads by improving their competencies based on CKO Sprint’s CTL Behavioural Competencies & Excellence Pathway. Interested candidates should submit an application form by May 26, 2025.

Transformational Coaching Survey

Queens University is conducting a research study about the leadership behaviours coaches use, according to the youth athletes (ages 13-19) who work with them. Led by RCC’s Dr. Stuart Wilson PhD and supported by CPC’s/BBCC’s Noah Jonsson, the purpose of the study is to assess how youth athletes feel about their coach’s leadership behaviours. By better understanding these behaviours, the researchers can help improve how coaches interact with athletes. Athletes interested in completing the 8-12 minute survey can find more information here. Coaches can receive a summarized report of the results. Individual results and participant names will not be identified.

RBC Training Ground Events - Coaches Needed

RBC Training Ground qualifying events are happening in Ontario from February to May 2025 and CKC needs coaches to attend the event. If interested, please contact Emily Mackeigan emackeigan@canoekayak.ca. There is a $200 coach honorarium available per event.
